Reflection Globalization in India & IT revolution –Impacts and theories-III

The employment opportunities have also increased and this is not only in terms of the high salaried work. Even smaller business like the hotel and catering industry is growing owing to the increase in number of working people, especially women. The very fact that there is a reverse brain drain happening and the number of foreign companies and people are coming here for work is heartening. And also the diversifying of Indian culture abroad is a welcome change. Its actually a fact that more of Pundit Ravishankar’s records are being sold in US than the number of Britney Spear records sold here!

Like every coin having two sides, major issues like globalization are bound to have a few limitations. At the rapid speed at which the world is changing, it would be foolish to sit and contemplate about the nation we once were and argue that we don’t need external infiltration to flourish. If we could understand the facts and benefits behind the process , it just too obvious that the pros outweigh the cons and that the change is for the better. Its only fair to say that if India is being looked at as one of the fastest emerging global economies and at some point even a threat to some of the worlds leading economies, its all attributed to IT revolution and globalization as a whole.

Also there has been an explosion of the wealth of the middle class. Multiple employments in a family and increase in entry level salaries have contributed to the same. It’s a tried, tested and proved fact that a banker or public sector worker cannot earn even half the money that’s being earned by an IT professional in the same time frame. This kind of improvement in cash inflow has increased the standard of living. More and more luxuries are becoming affordable to the common man. What was considered to be unaffordable maybe a couple of decades ago has become a household commodity now and better access to good health and educational facilities is possible.

According to a recent Times Now survey:

“The growth rate of Delhi’s per capita income has been climbing steadily. In 2002-03, Delhi’s per capita income grew by just 2.9%. The increase in 2003-04 was 8.6% and then climbed up to 9.1% in 2004-05. The all-India per capita income growth rate has exceeded Delhi’s rates in recent years.”

This translated into actual figures is mind blowing and this increasing trend is fairly steady and the market analysts predict that the per capita income is not going to decrease for quite sometime. Once again this was possible only because entry of big multinationals and fortune 500 companies who have set up offices or SEZ’s . To give a better picture, by Indian standards ,even the smallest SEZ has to be around 25 acres and just simple math will show the magnitude of work involved in putting up and maintaining the place, not to mention the white collared jobs it will offer thereafter. Minimally speaking every SEZ will employ a very approximate value of 12,000 people ranging from the maintenance workers to the ceo. With hundreds of SEZ’s coming up all over the country, do your math to know what im talking about.

In the last decade countries like India and china have been most prone to globalization. There has been a change in lifestyle and living conditions of people ever since and its up to each of us to take a call whether its effects have been positive or negative.

Pros :

It would be far from the truth to dismiss of this revolution as bad or harmful. Some of the positive effects of which is breathtaking. The most obvious one being the exponential growth in gdp of the country. According to the revised estimates released by the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) in May 2006, real GDP accelerated from 7.5 per cent in 2004-05 to 8.4 per cent during 2005-06. The Indian economy has, thus, recorded an average growth of over 8 per cent in the latest three years (2003-04 to 2005-06).

This is almost on par with the developed nations of the world.

And in stark contrast The rich countries of Europe have seen the greatest decline in global GDP share by 4.9 percentage points, followed by the US and Japan with a decline of about 1 percentage point each.

Indian Economy experienced a GDP growth of 9.0 percent during 2005-06 to 9.4 percent during 2006-07. By 2025 the India’s economy is projected to be about 60 per cent the size of the US economy. The transformation into a tri-polar economy will be complete by 2035, with the Indian economy only a little smaller than the US economy but larger than that of Western Europe. There is no denying the fact that this could have not been achieved without globalization. Such international exposure also results in cultural integration and we are also exposed to international best practices which results in improvement in working methods of the public and private sector.

Reflections- be a self motivator -II

Filed under: my write ups — @ 12:38 pm

Looking for acceptance and appreciation from those who care less for our development kills our spirits. It is detrimental to our growth and stops progress and focuses on gaining attention alone. Never be afraid to be yourself or to experiment, fearing criticism. They say, “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”.

Life is lived from the inside out. Seek to satisfy the inner self and that happiness will be transformed to the external world too. A person seeking external peace alone, will end up with stress and low satisfaction levels even when presented with all the riches of the world. Truth and peace are not far away from the one who goes in search for them. Be contented with what you have and be thirsty, not desperate for achieving more. Get started, get moving, for in the game of life, the only one stopping you is YOU !

Reflections- be a self motivator -I

Filed under: my write ups — @ 6:34 pm

i am going to start this new column called reflections where in i am going to put all the writings of mine and this is the beginning man.It starts with how can onebe a self motivator…

The world is filled with opportunities for eyes which seek. It is the same world, the same trees, the same people everyone sees; yet some make effective use of them. They have the same eyes but different vision which enables them to see beyond the visible.

At some point of time in life, you would have felt like being on top of the world. Everything seemed to be going right for you then and there was overwhelming joy, happiness and more importantly, satisfaction and a sense of achievement. Our focus should be to bring to our life, these ‘happy’ moments as many times as possible.

Quite often, we are waiting for something or someone to enter into our lives to get started. It’s December and we are waiting for January 1st. 2 weeks from January, we are looking for the next festival date to get started all over again. How often would I have said, “If only I had someone like Prakash…he has a girlfriend who motivates him from behind all the time”. The truth is, success lies and comes from the inside and not from the outside.

How long can I believe in ‘Better late than never ?’ I keep planning over and over again and keep faltering over and over again. Repetitive failures demotivate us from going upwards. I fell to -50 the first time, -30 the second time and -10 the third time. Actually, am I not making progress ? God, people and friends are ready to forgive us infinitely. The question is, “Am I ready to forgive myself every time I make mistakes ?” …..
