Indian theatre music

The broad systems of Indian music-the Hindustani and carnatic have evolved through the centuries.The main difference between them is more in practice that theoretical.Indian music is built on raga and thala concepts.Raga literally means “which pleases” and may,therefore be defined as “mood”.tala is “cyclic rhythm” of the song.there are said to be 250 ragas.Some forms of hindustani music are:dhrupad,dhamar,khayal,thumri,tappa,qawwali.dadra and ghazal.Some forms of carnatic music:varnam,kriti,ragamalika,thillana,javali,padam,slokam.
